About this tea

This rare first flush Hojicha breaks with tradition. Whilst most roasted teas are made from mature leaves and stems, this exceptional tea uses the finest spring-picked leaves, the same quality normally reserved for premium Sencha. These young leaves arrive naturally sweeter and richer in umami, and when carefully roasted, they create an unusually smooth and refined cup.

Our Hojicha comes from Kagoshima in southern Japan, where fertile volcanic soil lends teas a deep, complex character. The roasting process transforms these delicate spring leaves into something wonderfully mellow, delivering all the toasty warmth you'd expect from Hojicha but with a remarkably clean finish. There's none of the harshness or bitterness that can appear in lower-grade roasted teas.

The liquor is amber and inviting, with a smooth body that feels comforting and satisfying. The flavor balances roasted sweetness with the subtle umami depth that marks these spring leaves as something special.

This is an excellent choice for those seeking a gentle, caffeine-light tea for evening enjoyment, or for anyone who loves the nutty warmth of roasted teas but prefers a more refined cup.
